The population was 17,764 at the 2000 census. According to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2004 estimates, the city had a population of 19,990. It is noted for its large snowbird population. Its newspaper is the Venice Gondolier Sun, and Univision affiliate WVEA is licensed to Venice.
